It has been a bit…

I guess I need to let you all know where I have been lately. We are in the thick of the design and prototyping process for Airships and Submarines. We are currently working on Jordan’s level which has a working title of “Jordan’s Worries.” The level has 6 missions and 3 embedded mini-games so we are really busy at the moment.

The process has been to

1) write a script; question and edit it; then

2) prototype the card game and then make edits to the scripts.

We are going back and forth between the scripts and the prototypes to iterate and perfect them.

But there is also something else going on in the creative process. We are refining the concept as we go. It is all about reaching for the goal of the game manifesting as a work of art, in addition to being an educational game, and we want the game to be entertaining as well. It is important that this game is played simply because it is entertaining and the players don’t realize that they are learning.

I have been using the pronoun “we” and this is not the royal we but an actual person. My game design colleague is Nicole Martino and she has a BS in Games from University of Utah. Here is a link if you are interested in the program: https://games.utah.edu/prospective-students/bs-in-games/ Nicole is fantastic and, if she is any indication, the University of Utah is doing a great job. We met at the monthly West Valley Game Jam that I sponsor every month. https://www.meetup.com/game-colab/events/

It has been a pleasure to work with her and our creative process has been a ton of fun. We support each other and question the design and iterate to make it better. This is how collaboration really should be. I am super happy to have her on board. It is nice to have a game design colleague.
