In the beginning…
Professors O’Hara and Devine met through a mutual connection at ASU’s Community Outreach office due to their shared interest in research for social change. Upon meeting in person, they determined that their research paths could be combined to reach their goal of social transformation. They imagined that through O’Hara’s scientific methodology and Devine’s interactive/creative approach that a new arts-based intervention could provide the participant engagement needed to effect the change that they both seek in their respective research agendas.
Upon further examination they determined that this collaboration has the additional potential to fulfill a pressing need for self-managed interventions that can broadly serve underserved communities. The project is a balance of both of their expertise and brings to life their shared desire to make a meaningful difference in the health and wellness of people everywhere.
